About Mr. Dothage
I grew up in Odessa, MO where I had an excellent start to my musical formation. From my musical debut in the 3rd grade holiday program, to being drum major of the marching band, to singing in the All State choir my junior and senior years, music was a constant part of my early education. I was incredibly lucky to have had music teachers who encouraged, trained, and challenged me all that time. Their dedication to the arts and to their students inspired me to choose this career, and I'm incredibly grateful for that!
I studied both music education and French at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. In that time I had the opportunity to play the saxophone in several jazz bands and the Pride marching band, as well as to sing in the university's touring choir. I performed routinely around Missouri, and in tours around the nation and abroad. I was also able to study in Lille, France for one semester during college to complete my coursework for the French degree. Encountering new cultures, languages, and people is one of my favorite things to do, and I plan to share some of my musical adventures from around the world with my classes.
Hops
Some of my other favorite free-time activities include cooking, tinkering on my computer, sailing my sailboat, playing with my Boston terrier, Hops, and (if you can imagine) making music. Currently, I perform with two local ensembles: the Kansas City Symphony Chorus, and Schola Cantorum of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. I'm proud to be a member in two groups that contribute so much to culture of this community! Below are a few listening examples of each.
